The Higher Agricultural Institute (HAI), established on November 1, 1951, marked the beginning of higher agricultural education in Albania. Founded during a challenging post-war period, HAI aimed to boost agricultural development and improve food security in the country. Initially located in Laprakë and later moved to Kodër-Kamëz in 1956, the institute laid the foundations for modern agricultural education, research, and innovation. Today, as the Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT), it continues to educate generations of students and support the sustainable development of Albania’s rural and agricultural sectors. The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT), with over 74 years of tradition, is Albania’s leading institution in agriculture, food systems, veterinary, and environmental sciences. With around 6,000 students, 5 Faculties, 1 Institute, and highly qualified academic staff, AUT combines teaching, research, and innovation to support national development. The university plays a key role in food security, sustainable management of natural resources, rural development, and the green transition, while actively partnering with the Albanian Government and international institutions, inluding BOKU Vienna.
