Phito Radio has returned to the heart of society delving into food security in the Caribbean: we have landed at a fish pier and restaurant in Aruba, meeting various people from the agricultural scene on the island. In this show we talk about the potential of agriculture on a small island like Aruba, and what factors are limiting Aruba to become self-sustaining when it comes to food production.
We have learned that an island without soil is a desertified island with no opportunities, and every islander is ultimately reliant on the viability of agricultural production. But are islands like Aruba really reliant on food production? And what would be needed to minimise imports in the future?
From the pier, another place where people meet people and people meet food, we discuss the limiting factors of a growing agricultural sector, and potential pathways for the future.

Guests on this show are:
- Nathalie Maduro (director of the department of Agriculture, Husbandry and Fisheries of Aruba)
- Vincent Storimans (deputy representative of the Netherlands in Aruba)
- Charles Koolman (peanut farmer)
- Ivan Dijkhoff (micro greens farmer)
- Cendric van der Linde (livestock and fruits farmer)

Phito Radio is bringing people together and explore the potential of sustainable agriculture as well as the essence of good food from Europe and the Caribbean. Each show takes place at another wonderful location and hosts a diversity of guests and experts to talk about the area, the landscape, the soils, the food and a theme around sustainable farming.
Our recipe: a mix of chats, landscapes and food, with a pinch of inspiring guests and a spoon of music.
