In Hungary, the share of agricultural area, in particular arable lands, within the total area is high even in international comparison. 58% of the territory of the country, i.e. 5.3 million hectares are under agricultural cultivation, and approximately 81% are used as arable land. Arable farmers experience extreme weather situations increasingly that either cause water erosion or drought in the production period. Soil conservation practices is considered to be the most important step in arable farming systems towards an agro-ecological transition, keeping market orientation principle. Various strategies supported by digital technologies may provide pathways for implementing practices for sustainable climate-smart arable farming.
